Social media is a great way to keep in touch with your friends and family.
Unfortunately, it is also a great way for hackers and criminals to access your personal information.
Here are some questions to ask yourself when using social media:
- Should I click on that link? Pages and links that are shared on social media platforms may not be secure. If you click on a link that asks you to enter your email address, banking details or password, you should think carefully about who this information could be shared with.
- Am I oversharing? Publicly sharing your date of birth, address or your daily routine can be used by criminals to steal your identity or plan criminal activity. If you wouldn’t share the information with a stranger, don’t post it online!
- Would I be okay if this information was shared broadly or seen by my employer? If the answer is no, don’t post!
