Paid Family and Domestic Violence leave

Feb 13, 2023

From 1 February 2023, employees may access 10 days of paid family and domestic violence leave every 12 months. This will apply to employees of small businesses from 1 August 2023. Until then, employees of small businesses may still access 5 days unpaid family and domestic violence leave.

The leave is available to full time, part time and casual employees upon commencement of employment but does not accumulate from year to year, rather it resets on an employee’s work anniversary.

Importantly, to protect the employee, information relating to family and domestic violence leave taken or balances must not be included in pay slips.

Any discussions about family and domestic violence leave must be treated as confidential.
